When we moved from NY to NC, we knew there would be some adjustments to be made. I would be lying if I said we weren’t nervous about being Yankees living in the mid-South. How would we make new friends? Would our ears and brains ever get used to a southern drawl? Would we ever find a decent cannoli? The answers to those questions are: Easy. Yes. and No. (I gave up on the cannoli search)
Now, after (almost) 13 years, we joyfully call Greenville “Home”. When we travel and people ask where we’re from, we say ‘Greenville’, which automatically commands the response, “South Carolina??” SMH…when will we ever get the recognition we deserve?? What makes Greenville SC so memorable anyway??

I can’t speak for what goes on in Greenville, SC but I can tell you what makes Greenville NC such a great place to live:
- People here are FANTASTIC!! Forget the whole ‘Yankee’ thing because this town is a melting pot. You can drive across town and see 10 different state license plates on any given day. You get smiles and “how ya’ll doin'” from everybody.
- The weather is great! I haven’t had to buy a shovel or rock salt since moving here. Yes, the summers are a bit on the ‘hotter than hades’ side, but that’s why we have pools…which we use 6 months of the year!
- The restaurant and nightlife are never-ending. We’ve got Sup Dogs – – Champions of the #BarstoolBestBar award. Villa Verde is serving up Dominican fare and the owner is always giving back to the community. We’ve got everything from Seafood to Mediterranean and even a little place called B’s BBQ. You might have seen them in Our State Magazine or on the Travel Channel. Yeah, we’ve got the food scene covered!
- Mini/Staycations just a short drive away; We’ve got beaches and museums and Aquariums and Forts and Lost Colonies…need I go on???
- And last, but f_a_r from least…we’ve got….ECU Pirate pride!! Pirate fever can hit you, shake you, and hold on tight even if you didn’t attend/graduate from ECU. Go to a football game at Minges Colloseum and I guarantee you’ll get bit by the Pirate bug. Arggghhh!

Repeat after me: “Greenville NORTH CAROLINA”
It’s here. It’s home.
